Journal Response: Week 6
The microtransaction system of Fortnite is certainly better than most games I've seen as an example. The main currency of the game is VBucks, and for $8 you can get yourself 1K Vbucks. With this you can only get yourself a single cosmetic out of the very wide selection of cosmetic only skins for weapons, your character, gliders, sprays, emotes, and a pickaxe. This game is free and totally playable without you spending money at all, but Fortnite encourages the sale of a Battle Pass. For $8 you can also buy the battle pass and it offers all of the mentioned cosmetics above for free that are unique to the Battle Pass. With a sense of urgency since there is a limited time these Battle Pass offers are available, Epic Games drawns in players to buy their microtransactions by making it cool to have. To improve sales, they also have collaborations and cross overs with characters of other genre's. Simply because it's cool, Epic Games has a really good formula when it comes to microtransactions.
