Journal Response: Week 4

Cuphead: I love this game. Fun, challenging, repetitive, unique design and awesome music that fits the platform shooter. This game will challenge the persistence of players who dare come across it. It makes it so every time you die you learn something of what not to do, but you also yell at yourself for making that mistake. It's a great challenge to all players. I've beaten this game already, so I have plenty of experience and it's so worth it when defeating bosses that you get a sweet feeling and victory.

Juice it or lose it: The presentation simply was about adding more and more effects to the game to make it look "juicy".  Adding too many effects may not always be a good thing, but putting in attention to detail in lots of things you create can result in the game being more captivating and appealing. Instead of the game being a piece of tofu, it's a piece of tofu that's decorated with luxurious details that make it much more tastier than it really is.

Theory of Fun Chapter 10: When making the fundamental gameplay style of a game, there's also the artistic style you need to look out for. As shown in the reading, a game about simply building up blocks and look like a game where you're putting people in a gas chamber and stacking them on top of themselves, killing the lines of people that match up in the process. Not only the art style, but the difference between making a game fun and allowing the user to have a fun time as well. The game can play awesome but if it doesn't put the player in that good mood then it's not really going to be a great game in their view.

Lenses Chapter 20: Art is everything. If a game doesn't look appealing, it's not going to sell well or hype up the team to make or play the game. Audio and video combined will help secure funding as well as a look you want to go with for designing a game. I always thought the art design was the artists. However, being a game designer means you have to manage both the mechanics and the experience the players go through. It's something I'll really need to look into!
